I watched New Year’s Day Rose parade- took notes with Mom

.

That Parade was in Pasedena, CA.
It is 5.5 miles long.
It uses 935 Volunteers!
There are approx 7,000 people in the parade itself.
The avg speed is 2.5 MPH
There are surprisingly only 63 Entries made up of:
– 19 Bands
– 17 Horse Groups
– 40 Floats

Marching bands had between 200 to 500 members each!

Other than 1st, 2nd & 3rd, they had “Topic winner options”

‘Mayor’s Choice award”
Showmanship Award
Judge’s Choice
Board’s Choice

They had a “President’s Float” where the Planning committee all rode to be acknowledged.

Red Stripe down middle of street to follow (we used to have a green one)

Saw a Banner hung on something with wheels so the people in front just pushed it.  It wouldn’t blow in the wind and could easily be read since it rested on a long plywood sheet that was on wheels…like 2 saw horses on wheels on each end.

Ideas –
-We could give a discount or some other “Perks” if the entry builds a float rather than just have walkers with signs,
-Maybe influence 1 group to make a moving part or mechanical piece as part of their float?
– Channel 20 should have a float in the parade(Paid of course)
– Ask Clubs of all sizes, big or small, to be in parade with a float promoting their club..to bring a more Localized flavor to the parade.
– Bars to be in the parade (That would be $300 each for Commercial entry).
– J and J Entertainment  have a Float (major player in distributed gaming, operating video gaming terminals, ATMs, and amusement devices (darts, pool tables) in bars and restaurants..located here locally)
